If you’re a member of the Midnight team, you’ve probably realised that there is a lot of autonomy when it comes to making your own decisions. Decisions about working hours, working locations, spending ££ on entertainment, and the way you work as a team.

While some of this might be down to being a small company which hasn’t developed lots of guidance yet, much of the autonomy is by design. Fundamentally, we believe that we are hiring people that we trust to make the right decisions for Planes.

As we grow, we want this to be one of our guiding principles. And here it’s being written down, so that everyone is on the same page when it comes to decision making.

Our Guiding Principle

”We trust each other to act in the best interests of Midnight”

What does this mean?

The principle is pretty straightforward. But it can be super useful to reflect on if you are making personal or company decisions. Here are some examples:

What if...

🥱 You’ve had a late night pushing out some work for a client and you feel pretty drained?

We know people do their best work with good work/life balance. And well-rested teams make for good projects. Perhaps you’ll take a morning off - you don’t need to ask for permission.

🎄You want to work from your parents house in the Shetlands for a week?

If you believe that you can do your work to the same quality in another environment, go for gold. Just let your team know where you’ll be.

🖍️ You’re in a tight timeframe for a design turnaround, and you need to purchase a font for a product?

If you need to use a company credit card to unblock you, go ahead. If you don’t have a credit card, you can be confident that Midnight will reimburse you. You do not need to ask permission to do your job the way you believe is best to do it!

What if I f*** up?

Sometimes you get things slightly wrong. If you’ve done got it wrong when trying to act in the best interests of Midnight, then that’s okay.
